Start your day with an early breakfast at the hotel, then depart at 7:30 am with your guide for a journey through Cambodia’s picturesque rural landscape. Your first stop is Kbal Spean, where you’ll explore the Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity (ACCB). This vital wildlife rescue and care center is dedicated to the conservation of endangered species, offering a unique glimpse into their efforts to protect and rehabilitate wildlife.
Following your visit to the ACCB, embark on a moderate 3-km trek through the dense jungle to reach Kbal Spean Hill. The trek takes you through a serene forest landscape to the “River of 1000 Lingas”, a sacred site where ancient Hindu carvings are etched into the riverbed. These intricate carvings include representations of deities, animals, and symbolic phallic images, reflecting the spiritual significance of the site and its historical importance.
After your exploration, enjoy a delicious lunch at Bong Thom Khmer House, a charming local restaurant on the outskirts of Siem Reap.
In the afternoon, proceed to Banteay Srei, widely known as the “Citadel of Women”. This temple is celebrated for its exquisite pink sandstone walls, which are intricately carved with detailed and well-preserved Khmer art. The delicate carvings and the temple’s architectural beauty make Banteay Srei a highlight of the Angkor complex.
Next, visit Preah Dak Village, where you’ll experience the traditional way of life in a Cambodian village. This immersive visit allows you to engage with local artisans and observe traditional crafts such as pottery making and palm sugar production. It’s a wonderful opportunity to gain insight into the cultural practices and daily lives of the local community.
Conclude your day with a visit to Bakong Temple, the first of Angkor’s mountain temples, dating back to the 8th and 9th centuries. As the largest and most significant temple of the Roluos group, Bakong stands out for its impressive architecture and well-preserved condition. The temple complex also features an active Buddhist monastery situated just north of its east entrance, providing a glimpse into the ongoing religious practices at this historic site.
